A lot of self’s posts from Oxford have tended to focus on food! That’s because some of the best pubs around are here. Specifically, just off Iffley Road.
Here’s a popular place on Iffley Road. Self had the most delicious steamed cod on a bed of lentils. She was here last week with the poet Jenny Lewis and that time she tried the monkfish. Also delicious!
Self loves this challenge. It gives her a chance to go through her archive and see which pictures look interesting in black and white.
The photos she selected are of her Airbnb in Oxford (two pillows on the bed), and a pub around the corner called The Chester Arms (two windows) that has really good pub fare (Aside from the usual steaks and roasts, they make mean vegan dishes. Their Mezza Platter is divine!)
Still traveling! For Cee Neuner’s Flower of the Day Challenge, has self got a special treat for dear blog readers!
Today she dropped by Hackney City Farm (an honest-to-goodness working farm, with goats and cows and sheep, right in the heart of East London) and photographed the wisteria hanging over the entrance. Gorgeous, right?
There is an Italian restaurant on the premises, but it wasn’t open yet at the time of self’s visit. She will return.
This week, we’re exploring the interplay of light and shadow–at different times of the day, in different seasons, under natural light, in artificial light. Choose whatever conditions you like. It’s totally up to you. You may also want to process your images in black and white to highlight the light and shadows.
Self is traveling. Her “light and shadow” photos were all taken in Bloomsbury, where she stayed last week:
First time for self to join the Monday Murals challenge! Self found it via Debbie Smyth’s Travel with Intent blog.
The murals are on the buildings surrounding one parking lot in Redwood City, California. Granted, everything looks a little seedier post-pandemic. Still, the murals are beautiful, a display of civic-mindedness and pride from the past.
