Self’s home is in Redwood City, California. She’s been exploring its nooks and crannies this summer.
She got this nifty display stand about 20 years ago, and every time she needs some validation, she looks at the stand, where most (if not all) of the journals that have published her work over the years are displayed.
On the lowest shelf are two programmes from the New Hampshire Symphony. The opera she collaborated on with Drew Hemenger got its world premiere in New Hampshire, March 2015:
And here’s the interior of a peanut butter & chocolate do-nut from an iconic doughnut shop in Westwood, which she visited in July:
Finally, a keepsake box filled with samples of son’s childhood artwork:
Been reading Gendrya all day in preparation for tonight’s Game of Thrones Season 7 Episode 4. Which self knows already from all the leaks has NO. GENDRY. Nevertheless. It is reportedly spectacular. There is a scene in which . . . but, no. THERE SHALL BE NO FURTHER SPOILERS.
She’s posted twice on this week’s Daily Post Photo Challenge TEXTURES. Now it’s time to appreciate these beauties from other WordPress bloggers!
“I want to get married and have at least four kids with ten dogs and live in a mansion with a jungle greenhouse with a pet jaguar.” — Runaway
“It is very difficult for a runaway kid to return after he or she has been on the street for more than a few weeks.” — Police Officer
“Adam and Troy have AIDS. Scooter is dead. Katy gave up her kid and is hanging out in bars in Polk Street selling pot.” — Runaway
“You know, they would rather live in filth and hunger with a group that will accept them than they would with a family that will meet all their physical needs, yet inflict on them emotional pain and torment.” — Preacher
“We won’t lose our jobs, this is a growth industry, good as the utility company.” — Counselor
Are you a stickler for getting in close to your subjects and capturing every detail, or do you prefer a more ethereal look that illustrates the sensations of the moment? Or both?
Self definitely falls into the latter group.
Much has happened in the world in the four months self traveled through England, Ireland, and France. She took this picture standing on the steps of London’s St. Martin-in-the-Fields, where she’d gone to listen to a candlelight Pachelbel Canon concert:
Before London, self was in Paris. She spent one day at Monet’s Garden in Giverney, which was awash in blooms:
Finally, Versailles. The lines were incredible. It took all of her niece Irene’s ingenuity to get us both inside. Self took this picture staring through the gilt iron gates at the front entrance, on a very hot afternoon in late May:
Here’s a poster from Mac Mahon Cinema on Avenue Mac Mahon in Paris (The Avenue, according to Google, was named AFTER the cinema. Only the French!). It celebrates the current film festival: 70 YEARS OF CANNES.
All the films they’ve been showing the past few weeks are Palm D’Or winning movies: The Leopard, Blow-Up, Taxi Driver, and all the French ones self doesn’t have time to look up right now.
That is one hot hot hot poster (Self would like to say that the actress is . . . French. That’s about all she knows):
