Life in Colour, April Challenge: PINK

Since today is the last day of the Life in Colour April Photo Challenge, and lots of self’s flowers are starting to bloom, these are all from her backyard, today. The rose is a Winsome.

Host of this challenge is Jude’s Travel Word Blog.

Stay safe, dear blog readers. Stay safe.

BRIGHT SQUARES: The End

All good things must end. Self went through April, all the time looking for Bright Squares. Thank you for hosting the challenge, Becky/The Life of B!

Below, pictures of her picker-uppers: a book (of course); flowers; and more flowers.

Stay safe, dear blog readers. Stay safe.

Thursday Door Challenge!

Self loves photo challenges. She also loves doors! No Facilities hosts the Thursday Door Challenge. He has some lovely doors in his gallery.

Since self is always short of time, she’ll just quickly post a picture of her front door, which she had re-painted last year. Yes, red is a favorite color:

And here is the door to self’s shed, which also happens to be painted red! She took the below picture during the California wildfires. The air quality was the poorest it’s ever been, as you can tell just from this picture. Fingers crossed that this year’s fire season won’t be as bad.

Stay safe, dear blog readers. Stay safe.

Flower of the Day (FOTD), Apr. 27: Wild Garden

Host of the Flower of the Day Challenge is Cee Neuner.

Self’s flower of the day is one of her oldest roses, Fourth of July. It’s in the backyard, which she never tends, she just leaves the plants alone to do what they do. Her Fourth of July started blooming last week (She fertilizes with Miracle-Gro, once a month through spring)

Stay safe, dear blog readers. Stay safe.

Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge (CFFC): Natural Light vs Man Made Light

Here’s the link to this week’s Cee’s Fun Foto Challenge.

Self loves natural light. She will never not use natural light, even at night. Which means, since she has very shaky fingers, that night shots present quite a challenge.

Last night, there was the most unusual moon. Round as round, but with all kinds of silvery light behind it. Self tried to take a picture from her yard, but her neighbor heard and came out, too. Then she was no longer alone, and she hates being in the backyard at night, crouching under a bush, wondering if someone’s listening to her every move.

So, here were her shots. The last one was from the kitchen window, which has very dirty window panes. Plus a dirty window screen.

Stay safe, dear blog readers. Stay safe.

Flower of the Day (FOTD), April 21: Abutilon

It is hard to take a picture of abutilon. Self should know: she’s taken dozens of pictures over the years. There’s not one that’s a keeper.

But for some reason, she’s decided to save this one. It’s nice, the contrast of pale orange and the speckled leaves. This grows in her backyard, without any shape at all. It’s just there, sprawled in the shade of a massive, old holly tree.

The host of the Flower of the Day Photo Challenge is Cee Neuner.

Flower of the Day (FOTD): Clematis Montana

Flower of the Day is the mighty clematis montana rubens. Self has had this plant 20 years. Never has it flowered the way it is flowering now. Guess all it needed was company.

Thank you to Cee Neuner for hosting this wonderful photo challenge.

Stay safe, dear blog readers. Stay safe.

April 15 BRIGHT SQUARES

And here we are, halfway through April! How time flies.

I’ve been wanting to post this picture for Becky’s April Squares challenge theme of ‘Bright,’ for a long while. They’re from a March visit to Gamble Garden Center in Palo Alto. I don’t know what they are — daffodils? I’ve never seen anything like them before.

See more Bright Square galleries here.

April 12 BRIGHT SQUARES

The life of B‘s Bright Squares Challenge runs through the month of April. Fun!

Today, self is back to photographing flowers. She had so many things she could have posted today, but she decided to leave some pictures for a future post.

Pictured:

  • clematis montana rubens (one very long strand trailing down, almost completely covered by delicate pink flowers)
  • clematis montana “white surprise” (self’s newest clematis)
  • cistus (rock rose)

Stay safe, dear blog readers. Stay safe.

Thursday Trios (Even Though It’s Friday)

The host of this challenge is Mama Cormier.

Self had great fun browsing through her archives to come up with these trios. All were taken in her garden except for the arches (obv). Self took that picture somewhere near Prague Castle, May 2019.

Stay safe, dear blog readers. Stay safe.
