Self thinks this is a rhododendron. A giant rhododendron. Either that or a giant azalea (lol) She dropped by the Mendocino Coast Botanic Garden this morning, and everything — azaleas, magnolias, rhododendron — were in bloom.
This neon pink bush was a few yards from the main entrance. They sell rhododendron in the nursery (and they now have a café!)

Love how the vanishing point pictures develop an extra oomph when in Black and White.
I took these pictures during my trip to ye olde home country, last month.
All week, those perky Weather Report people have been saying, “It’s going to be good this week — a warming trend!” She wishes they would just stop. It builds up self’s expectations. Monday was cold, and today was just as.
Towards 5 p.m., though, sun came out. Not for long, but it was enough for self to grab her camera and see what her roses looked like in sun.

The prompt this week: It’s not just PURPLE, it’s IMPERIAL PURPLE!
This iris was growing around Stow Lake, in Golden Gate Park, last year. Looked all over my archives, but didn’t find anything that came close. This must be why it’s IMPERIAL.

Sun finally came out, mid-afternoon.
Self’s roses are just loving the weather, they’ve never looked so good. The Icebergs are the white roses (on top). The Barbra Streisand roses are purple. Just behind both is a Japanese maple (Self’s flower beds are layered, more by accident than by design)

As those of you who live in northern California know, we’ve gotten more than our fair share of rain, the past week.
The good news is: profuse rain means profuse flowers!
The bad news is: the flower stems get wobbly and the flowers tend to flop over.
I grow scabiosa on my porch. And poor things are on the ground. But they are still pretty.
