First Sunday of 2021

New book (someone put a hold on it at the library, she hopes she can finish reading before she has to return it). It is very absorbing, reminds self of growing up in Manila. Each section seems to be in the point of view of a different woman.

In Fa’iza’s section is a passage that makes self wish she had gone to a farmer’s market today:

Just about a month ago . . . I invited the same group to dinner with a European menu. I went to the meat market and tipped the butcher five tomans for eight prime-cut filets. I bought green beans. I bought snow peas. I bought tomatoes and small potatoes. I mixed rice with beans for the salad. I also made yogurt and spinach. The sauce I made for the filets was delicious. From the fruit stalls downtown I bought the largest peaches and nectarines, as well as sweet and sour cherries. I asked Colonel Sarvbala’s orderly to get me the best vodka again.
