A Moment in Time

  • On Saturday, Biden captured the presidency when The Associated Press declared him the victor in his native Pennsylvania at 11:25 a.m. EST. That got him the state’s 20 electoral votes, which pushed him over the 270 electoral-vote threshold needed to prevail.

I’m not ugly crying, you are!

Wonderland, by Daniel Henninger, wsj 5 November 2020

The beauty of the vote-by-mail: the counting is slow and grinding, and POTUS is having a meltdown.

The majority of the votes still being counted are the mailed-in ballots. And, as everyone knows, the Democrats voted overwhelmingly by mail, which was the prudent route during a pandemic. The Republicans, more given to drama and spectacle, and loyal to their Leader’s downplaying of the threat caused by corona virus, chose to vote in person, in droves, and their votes were counted first.

Which was why Nov. 3 was such a bad night for self, and for many Democrats. It was not fun seeing how we lost Florida, Texas, Ohio, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee, South Carolina, and a host of states. But every morning since then, as the tally of mail-in ballots has started, the electoral college map has grown a little more blue. And it is beautiful.

It is so beautiful that Daniel Henninger (who blames the rona, and not Trump’s miserable anti-science and anti-immigration policies, not to mention his blatant racism, for ruining what was almost sure to be a Trump re-election — bad, corona, bad!) in his Wonderland column in the Wall Street Journal of 5 November writes:

  • This pandemic-driven novelty is an experiment we should never repeat.

Joe is pretty shrewd. He is definitely not, as Trump called him, “the worst presidential candidate in U.S. history.”

Trump bungled his response to the rona. Joe, being the most empathetic presidential candidate in U.S. history, chose the humane path. Which also turned out to be the more successful path. American democracy and American science for the win.
