For “light” reading, before self sinks into the heavy going of her 2016 reading list (The below list will probably take her the rest of the year to get through. She’s going to be soooo busy! And, judging from the titles alone, also so depressed!)
- Sarah Waters, The Little Stranger
- Dexter Filkins, The Forever War
- Leo Tolstoy, The Death of Ivan Ilyich
- Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness
- Voltaire, Candide
Self is reading Elmore Leonard. Specifically, Road Dogs.
Leonard’s dialogue is just delicious. The settings are Los Angeles (Venice Beach) and Miami.
The con this time is a “psychic con.” The women in the conversation are Megan Norris, Jack Foley’s lawyer; and Dawn Navarro, Foley’s common-law wife, who makes a living as a fake psychic.
Jack Foley (who Leonard’s followers will recognize from, among others, Out of Sight): Running a psychic con doesn’t mean she’s actually psychic.
Cundo: She as cool as Megan Norris?
Foley: They both cool, but in different ways. Miss Megan is cool because she smart, man, always knows what to say. Dawn is cool because she knows what you going to say.
Stay tuned, dear blog readers. Stay tuned.
