Still Reading THE HAPPINESS PROJECT: OR, WHY I SPENT A YEAR TRYING TO SING IN THE MORNING, etc

The subtitle is ridiculously long.

The author looks too “glam” to be taken seriously.

She got some very negative reviews on goodreads.

But self is enjoying The Happiness Project, very much.

Here’s an excerpt:

My research has revealed that challenge and novelty are key elements to happiness.  The brain is stimulated by surprise, and successfully dealing with an unexpected situation gives a powerful sense of satisfaction.  If you do new things — visit a museum for the first time, learn a new game, travel to a new place, meet new people —  you’re more apt to feel happy than people who stick to more familiar activities.

This is one of the many paradoxes of happiness:  we seek to control our lives, but the unfamiliar and the unexpected are important sources of happiness.

So what if the above is merely a preface to a section about launching one’s own blog (p. 74)?  It’s still useful advice.

Moving on!

Ever since she went to Manila, her MacBook Air has required pressing VERY VERY HARD on the corners to get any type of cursor movement.  Oh no oh no oh no, has her MacBook Air, which has been all over the world with self (in her most recent incarnation as, The Man sarcastically says:  World Traveler), finally reached the limits of its endurance?  Or could it have been that the strawberry jam that dripped on the keyboard in a moment of clumsiness, just before she embarked on this trip (She is always at her clumsiest just before a trip) has finally had a chance to work itself into the nooks and crannies of the instrument?

Self bites her lips and tries to remain calm.

Stay tuned, dear blog readers.  Stay tuned.

Street Life: Bacolod

Self has always been fascinated by what’s “Out There,” as these photographs will attest. Her curiosity is a big part of her personality.

The Street Corner: There's a karaoke bar nearby. The night is never silent.

Good Morning: WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge

This week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is “Good Morning.” Ah, mornings are absolutely self’s favorite time of day.  The day is all possibility, and her thoughts are clear.  Here are three iconic “Good Morning” memories:

The vaporetto stop on Ca' San Toma, early morning

The vaporetto stop on Ca’ San Toma, early morning.  Self had made arrangements to be taken to Venice’s Marco Polo Airport from here.

Self's breakfast at the Bacolod Organic Market, where they sell 10 different kinds of rice, all manner of organic coffee, and pumpkins/squash.
