Mendocino Coast Writers Conference

Self was a guest faculty in the 2007 Mendocino Coast Writers Conference and would highly recommend it to aspiring writers.  The conference emphasizes “encouragement, expertise, and inspiration.”

In conjunction with the conference, a writing contest for registered participants offers $200 in prizes in the following categories:  novel excerpt, short fiction, nonfictin, and poetry.  Deadline for entries is May 15.

In addition, the Mendocino Coast Writers Conference makes available five full scholarships in a new program, Five Under-Twenty-Five Program.  All scholarship applications are due by May 1.

Check it out, dear blog readers!

Oz the Great and Powerful: James Franco Shows Up!

No kidding, self loved him in the role of Oz, he had such rakish affability, such All-American charm.  His performance reminded her of how funny he was in Pineapple Express. He and Mila Kunis had chemistry, too bad she morphed into something else.

Rachel Weisz just keeps getting more and more gorgeous. Self remembers her very well from her Chain Reaction days. Living with Daniel Craig must certainly be agreeing with her.

As for Michelle Williams, self very much likes her in long hair.  She was getting sooo tired of the Mia Farrow look.  But just about the only complaint self has about this movie is that Michelle Williams’ Glinda the Good Witch had only about half the fire and crackle of sister witches Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Theodora (Mila Kunis).  Granted, she had to portray “good,” but self sees no reason why “good” can’t also be “interesting.”

Last night, self watched something on BBC2. She is now a fan of this station, thanks to “Parade’s End.” (Speaking of which, she wonders if the series will end before Cumberbatch/ Tietjens gets to show his manliness by bedding either his wife or his paramour. Likely not. He’s sort of like the James Spader character in Sex, Lies and Videotape, very withholding, although not in a creepy way).

She was watching something called the Graham Norton show. Jude Law, Judi Dench, and Mila Kunis were the guests. James Franco was Read the rest of this entry »
