Ecstatic Sunday

Just got a piece accepted by Word Riot.

Self thinks that is certainly worth a caramel salt extravaganza at local favorite Pamplemousse, right now.  Wouldn’t you agree, dear blog readers?  Must get dressed.  Not to worry, your blog mistress will be sure to take lots of delectable pictures.

(In other matters, can anyone clobber that referee who charged the 49ers with unsportsmanlike conduct against Green Bay because Justin Smith’s helmet got knocked loose during a tackle and he took it off so that he could re-secure it ???  Helloooo, where is instant replay?)

Hybrid Essay Love: “The Lost Language”

“The Lost Language” was one of self’s first “hybrid” pieces. She loved it to death — both the process of writing it, and where it appeared.  The piece was first published in the Spring/Summer 2009 issue of a nifty magazine called Isotope, a journal that combined literary, nature and science writing.

That issue of Isotope also contained work by fiction writer Jaimee Wriston Colbert, creative nonfiction by Lee Gulyas, and poetry by Winifred Hughes and Shara Lessley.  The editor was Chris Cokinos.  Isotope’s advisory board included two biologists, a painter, a psychologist, and three poets.
