The House Was By a Canal

This was self’s room:

Amsterdam is a very funky, genial city, and its people are kind.

But it doesn’t hold her imagination the way Edinburgh does.

There wasn’t a moment when self didn’t find herself wishing she were back in Hawthornden:

Amsterdam: Am Here

The Young ‘Uns: Oliver, Oona, and Oona’s Mom, Bonnie

In a “dam” (square) next to the van Gogh Museum

What a difference in the weather!  While Edinburgh was cold and wet, here the sun was shining.  As usual, self discovers she packed the wrong things:  she shipped her sneakers and sandals home with her boxes, and all she has here are one pair of John Lewis flats which, yesterday, began to give her blisters; and one pair of UGG boots, in case it turned out to be rainy and wet, like Edinburgh.  Turns out the weather here is warm, and everyone here is in sandals, nary a boot in sight.  Oh well!

The Gallery of the Rembrandts at the RijkMuseum. There are throngs of woshipful viewers, including these two in the photo I took

More Rembrandts! Went up close to capture the intricate detailing of this woman’s dress.

The Rijksmuseum has a few Vermeers, including “The Kitchen Maid” — another painting which had crowds paying obeisance.

Rembrandt’s panoramic “The Night Watch.” According to the Audio Tour, it only acquired that name because centuries of grime had darkened the cavas.  So what was this painting’s real name?  Alas, the Audio Tour does not tell us.

Stay tuned, dear blog readers.  Stay tuned.
