Now Approaching: Critical Mass

Two more short shorts accepted today:  “Bread” and “My Dead Chinese Professors,” which self sent out in December 2011.

Looking back on her acceptances thus far (2012):  her most far-out, experimental stories are the ones being accepted:  “Thing” (about mutant pigs); “Bread” (prose poetry about coming to America); “My Dead Chinese Professors” (about studying Chinese at Stanford and forgetting all that Chinese, and also about having bad dreams)

Go figure!

Meanwhile, on the reading front:

Am now on p. 288 of Nicholson Baker’s Human Smoke:  Robert Menzies, prime minister of Australia, pays a visit to the Churchills at their family home and describes Winston thus:

. . .  a holy terror and not a good listener.  Oratorical even in conversation.  The master of the mordant phrase . . .

Making good progress on backlog of magazines.  Here’s something from The Economist, April 21, 2012:

From the Obituary section:  Murray Lender, “bagel-promoter, died on March 21st, aged 81”:

Everything, he proclaimed, was Better on a Bagel.  Cream cheese and lox, for sure.  But why be Jewish about it?  Why not spread this “Jewish English muffin” with jelly, paté, peanut butter, Swiss cheese — bacon, even?  And why stop at breakfast, when you could lunch and dine on them too?  Tasty, satisfying, convenient, and at a bargain price!  What’s not to like?

Stay tuned, dear blog readers.  Stay tuned.

Side Yard, Tuesday, 15 May 2012

Went into the backyard, intending to take pictures of foxgloves. Ended up taking a picture of this, instead:

This means “longevity.”

Bought this years ago, from Redwood City Nursery on El Camino Real.

Stay tuned, dear blog readers.  Stay tuned.
