AWP Bookfair, Day 2

Weather in Denver is really, really beautiful.

Self realizes it is really really exhausting to walk back and forth between the Colorado Convention Center (where the Bookfair is) and the Sheraton, so she tries never to go back to the hotel room if she can help it.

Also, self belatedly realizes that it is extremely extremely anxiety-inducing to type this on a hotel computer in the lobby, where 10 million people are looking over your shoulder to see what you are writing (But self has already thrown caution to the winds and checked her bank account. At the rate she’s been buying books, this balance is getting seriously depleted)

She has a short story rolled up like a cigarette that she picked up from Patrick S yesterday, along with his book. The story, “Let,” is by Lindsay Hunter, and when self unwraps the cigarette, the first line she reads is: “Let’s take a ride.  I’m your family.” Wow! Self can hardly wait to read the rest of the story!

Also, self was just mosying along when she happened upon the table for Hotel Amerika. Gorgeous, gorgeous journals! “I’m published in your journal!” self was happy to tell the editor. And he whipped out a copy and checked and — YES! There was self’s story! Included in a section called “Trans Genre”! How cool! He gave self two author copies, right then and there!

Self took fab pictures of Luisa I, Brian R, Margarita D, and Evelina G. She also got the card of Ethiopian limo driver Mesfin Ticho, who promised that if she could get three other people together tomorrow afternoon, he could cut them a special rate to the Denver airport.

Luisa I gave her a T-shirt with the logo of the Old Dominion Creative Writing Program! Self wore it to sleep last night! She showed self a very fab business card made by one of her talented daughters. The card is a wonderful burnt orange shade, and has a graphic of a bird on the upper left-hand corner.

Frontier turned out to be a good airline. Blue leather seats, even in economy, natch!

Now self has to rush off, for she’s meeting Calyx publisher Margarita Donnelly for dinner.

Stay tuned, dear blog readers. Stay tuned.
