Eavesdropping: /Film UK

First of all, the Queen handed out New Year’s Honours (sort of like the UK version of the Kennedy Center Awards?) and among the honorees were:

Then, “Best Films of 2009”, arranged in three tiers:  “Quite Good”, among which were The Boat That Rocked (aka Pirate Radio), Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and Zombieland; “Rather Good Indeed”, among which were Antichrist (!!!  Perhaps self ought to get over her qualms and see this movie!), District 9, and The Hurt Locker; and the best 25 movies of 2009.  Here are some of the choices in the Top 25:

  • # 25:  500 Days of Summer
  • # 23:  A Serious Man
  • #19:  A Christmas Carol
  • #16:  Moon (This was one of self’s faves, as well)
  • #15:  The Informant!
  • #14:  Inglourious Basterds (As was this one!)
  • #13:  Avatar
  • #12:  The Wrestler
  • #11:  Toy Story
  • #8:  Drag Me to Hell (Self will rent this from Netflix, pronto!)
  • #7:  Julie & Julia (This one’s already in her queue)
  • #6:  Bruno
  • #5:  Bright Star (Self added this to her queue today)
  • #1:  The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus (dir. by Terry Gilliam, who incidentally dished gossip on Heath Ledger for Vanity Fair article on the late actor.  Self wished the magazine had been able to get Michelle Williams’ take on the proceedings!)

Stay tuned, dear blog readers, stay tuned.
