Insomnia, Upper Merion HS, and Tiger

2 a.m. this morning. Self suffering from her usual bout of insomnia. She was watching a True Crime show featuring the mystery writer Lisa Scottoline. Apparently, Ms. Scottoline had based one of her mysteries on a true story: a weird group of teachers in a very chi-chi high school, near Philadelphia, in a place called Upper Merion. The fascinating story is that an English teacher was found murdered in her car, her two children vanished, and the prime suspects were the ex-principal of the high school and a popular English teacher named Bradfield, who was revealed to have had a string of affairs with faculty at the high school. Anyhoo, what struck self particularly was that Bradfield, who was eventually convicted, had very very high student evals. In fact, his evals were probably the highest of any English teacher ever, at that high school (!!@@##) And, apparently the guy was so charismatic that not only did he snow the students, he snowed his fellow teachers, who were all apparently very reluctant to “rat” on him.

Next came CNN and Keith Olbermann, and it was a very interesting show, in which he ran a tape of some TV station on Taiwan (that is apparently all agog over the Tiger Woods scandal) that had bothered to do a computer simulation of what might have led to Tiger’s run-in with a tree and a fire hydrant. And this CGI simulation featured Tiger’s wife chasing his SUV with a golf club, catching up to it, and smashing at the rear window while Tiger presumably passed out from shame.

Finally, self would just like to say, that she thinks a fine of $164 for a moving violation that results in $30,000 worth of damage is really out-of-whack. Self, for not stopping the requisite five seconds at an intersection, was fined by Redwood City almost $300. And everyone knows she is just a poor writer, not a millionaire like Tiger Woods.

Stay tuned, dear blog readers, stay tuned.
