A Kundiman Book Sale, a KulArts Fall Season

First, the book sale (Self is quoting from the website of Achiote Press, which published the poetry chapbook):

Kundiman is an organization dedicated to creating “a nurturing space for Asian American poets.”  For the past few years, they have conducted an annual summer workshop at the University of Virginia, a workshop whose goal is to provide “a safe yet rigorous space where Asian American poets can explore, through art, the unique challenges that face the new and ever-expanding diaspora.”

Because the arts in general, and, it follows, organizations like Kundiman, survive on hope as much as financial resources, it’s been severely affected by America’s economic downturn. As part of their fundraising, Kundiman has partnered with Achiote Press to offer a special anthology whose sales will go directly to Kundiman, a 501 (c) (3) organization.  The poets represented range from the established (Marilyn Chin, Joseph O. Legaspi, Oliver de la Paz), as well as many who are considered “emerging” (Vanessa Huang, Sally Wen Mao, Melissa Roxas, among others)

The chapbook is only $7.  Go here to purchase (Sale price good only until Sept. 30).

Next, the KulArts Fall Season has just been announced.  Among the exciting new activities this season are:

  • PeliKULa!  a Pinay Film Series
  • “Healing Mars,” a multimedia solo performance by Marcella Pabros-Clark
  • a Group Visual Arts Exhibition, Tabi Tabi Po
  • the Book Launch of The Solemn Lantern Maker, the latest novel from noted Australian poet, novelist and performance artist Merlinda Bobis

Please go to the KulArts website for more information! A Fall Season Pass enables you to attend all the events for a ridiculously cheap $45.

(Self can’t resist saying how beautiful she finds the KulArts promo brochure.  Yes, once again graphic designer Tina Besa has outdone herself)
