Today, 2nd Thursday of September (2009)

Today, the 2nd Thursday of September 2009, was all about the following:

  • fresh pandesal from the Goldilocks next to Mountain View Costco. There is nothing, nothing better than fresh, hot, buttered pandesal (unless it’s hot pandesal dipped in condensada — Oooyyy!)
  • Also, lechon kawali. Also, puto and cuchinta (though these last two items are for the dinner on Saturday, so self better not eat them)
  • chatting on the phone (a long time) with Kerry, who she’s known forever, but sees in the flesh only about once a year.
  • planting three Ajuga “Mahogany” in the front yard, and killing four baby snails.
  • reading Andrew O’Hehir’s review of “9” on Salon.com (Self can’t figure out whether he recommends it or not. On the one hand, he uses words like “dark and whimsical” to describe it. On the other hand, he also calls it “dumbed down” and “generic mish-mash.” And that’s just for starters.)
  • working two hours in the Writing Center (getting up at 9 a.m. and still managing to make it out the door by 9:40 a.m.)
  • trying to forestall coming to the end of Mary Gaitskill’s utterly absorbing novel of several years back, Veronica
  • Also, thinking about Cal Shakes’ “Midsummer Nights Dream,” opening Wednesday a week from today.  Self’s tickets are for the 26th, 2 p.m.  Can hardly wait!

Stay tuned, dear blog readers, stay tuned.

I read about your pandesal and was reminded that I haven’t had dinner yet. Except I don’t want dinner, I want hot steaming sink-your-mouth-into-it buttered and milk-dipped pandesal. I have no idea where I’m going to get that at 10:30 tonight.

A confession: I didn’t have dinner. All I had was pandesal slathered in soft butter and sprinkled over with sugar, OMG OMG OMG
