Broken Promises — Not! Why Today Self Feels Like Sage Chinese Scholar Zhang Dai

Today, by hook or by crook, self will hie herself over to Century Park 12 in Bayshore and watch Eastern Promises. Self realizes she’s been saying this for the past three days, but today she has every intention of fulfilling her goal. Yes, even if it means self will hardly have any time to prepare the delicious dinner hubby expects will be waiting for him when he returns from the office.

Because today, dear blog readers, self has received a speeding ticket. Yes, her first speeding ticket in over 20 years. For going five miles over the speed limit (self is very sure of this, for she always watches her speedometer). On Farm Hill Boulevard. Which she traverses at least twice a day, every day of the year.

Verily, they speak the truth, those who say that “When it rains, it pours.”

Has self confided yet to dear blog readers the result of Gracie’s latest physical, on Saturday? Read the rest of this entry »

Probably a Silly List, But Anyhoo . . .

Self will do anything — anything — to get out of grading papers this evening. Not that the papers are all bad. In fact, quite a number show a touching empathy for Anne Sexton/Chitra Divakaruni/ Kevin Kostelnik/ and Sharon Olds, poets whose work self has been teaching the past week. But self feels quite in need of some distraction at the moment, so she has decided to draw up a list of all the people who have sent her at least FIVE e-mails in the past 4 years (that is, since 2003)* . . .
